You use your Garmin watch or other Garmin device to record workouts and Morpheus can import that workout data directly from your Garmin Connect account.  This will help in situations where using the Morpheus app in real time or using the Morpheus M7 are not practical or not preferred.

How to activate the Garmin workout sync feature

You first need to authorize Garmin to send us your workout data.  In Garmin this is called "Activities".

There are 2 simple steps to get this set up.  If you have already completed step 1 at some point previously then just skip to step 2.

  1. In the Morpheus app, to go Menu --> Settings --> Tracking Settings and set at least one of the two dropdown menus to Garmin and press Save.  Then tap on the home button to go back to the home screen.  You then should see a Garmin Connect login screen appear.  You need to enter your correct Garmin Connect login and password and then choose to Login.  You need to ensure that you toggle Activities to the ON position.
  2. If you already have Garmin selected for Steps or Sleep and have previously authenticated Garmin inside of the Morpheus app, then you can just go directly into your Garmin Connect app to ensure that Activities are toggled to the ON position.  Just go to Settings --> Connected Apps --> Morpheus Recovery.  Don't see Morpheus Recovery listed there?  Revert back to Step 1 above.

**NOTE:  Garmin workouts will NOT be available to sync to Morpheus until AFTER the above has been completed.

Syncing Workouts from Garmin Connect to Morpheus

Any Garmin workout that you want to import into Morpheus, you first need to sync to your Garmin Connect app from your Garmin watch or other Garmin device.

This is important to understand because we do NOT get workout data from your Garmin device itself, we get it from your Garmin Connect account.

Important Note:

Some workouts that you see in Garmin Connect might not be available to Morpheus via Garmin's API

  • This means that Garmin Connect will not forward data that has been received from one third-party fitness platform (ie TrainerRoad, Rouvy, Zwift, ErgData, etc) onto another third-party platform (ie Morpheus) that is also linked to your Garmin Connect account.  This is a Garmin policy and not something that we at Morpheus can impact.
    • If you record a workout on Zwift, for example, and Zwift sends data to Garmin Connect, Garmin will NOT make that data available to Morpheus (or any other 3rd party platform). To get around this, just make sure that you wear your Morpheus M7 heart rate monitor and then the workout data saved to that can be synced and imported into the Morpheus app.
  • As long as you are using a Garmin watch or other Garmin device to record the workout, you should not experience any issues.
    • Just remember to sync your Garmin watch or Garmin device to your Garmin Connect account before you try to import the workout to Morpheus.

Once a workout has been fully synced to Garmin Connect from your Garmin device, it will be available to import into your Morpheus app.

To sync available Garmin workouts into Morpheus, you will tap on Menu and then tap on SYNC within the Morpheus app.

You will see a screen that has 2 buttons – one to sync workouts from the Morpheus M7 HRM and one to sync workouts from Garmin Connect.

**If you do NOT see these options, please reference Steps 1 & 2 in the setup instructions at the beginning of this article.**

Tap the Garmin Connect button.

This will load any available Garmin workouts into a date and time list on the next screen.

Select ALL of the Garmin workouts that you want to import into Morpheus by tapping the box to the left of each of them.

**Any that you do not select will be automatically deleted after you complete the import.**

Press the blue Next button at the bottom of the screen when ready.

**Don’t see a workout you expected to see?  It either already exists in your Morpheus profile or Garmin hasn’t sent it to us quite yet.

These workouts automatically default to workout type "Mixed" which is denoted by the kettlebell symbol. But you can change this to "Cardio" or "Strength" by tapping the appropriate symbol before you submit the workout. This cannot be edited after it has been submitted.
**NOTE:  There is no difference between "mixed" and "cardio" in terms of how Morpheus interprets or calculates things.  The only difference is "strength" because there are no heart rate zones for strength training.

If needed, you can adjust any time off of the beginning or end of the workout using the "exact time" slider bar.   Just keep in mind that when you get to this screen, this total duration matches exactly what was recorded into Garmin Connect.

Set RPE and Performance to the correct places on the slider bar.

The notes box will auto-fill with the "activity type" of the workout in Garmin Connect.  But you can edit your workout notes with any content you want.  You can do this at this point before submitting it or you make notes edits at any point afterward from the workout results screen in the Morpheus app.

If you are importing more than one workout, you will see a Next button.

If you are importing only one workout, you will see a Submit button.

After you Submit the workout and go to the workout results screen, you will see the Morpheus details for this workout.

In the upper left corner next to the time of the workout, you will see a Garmin symbol to denote that this workout was imported from Garmin.

You will also be able to see which workouts came from Garmin via the symbol that appears on your on your workout history lists.

Attached to this article is a video of how the entire process works (after you have ensured that the workout is in Garmin Connect).

Important Notes

  • You can wear any almost heart rate monitor for this, it does not need to be the M7.
    • As long as the workout data gets into Garmin Connect from a Garmin device, it can be imported into Morpheus.
  • You must have internet access on your phone to use the SYNC function of the Morpheus app.
  • Remember when syncing M7 or Garmin to choose ALL the workouts that you want to import
    • Anything not selected from the list will be deleted from the list after the import has been completed
  • All imported workouts (Garmin or M7) now default to “Mixed”…but you can change it to “Cardio” or “Strength” if you want to.
    • This is an effort to help reduce the amount of workouts imported as “Strength” when the individual meant to choose something else.  There is zero difference between Mixed and Cardio in terms of what Morpheus calculates.  Just tap the icon at the top of the screen that makes the most sense for your session.  And remember that there are no heart rate zones when you choose “strength”
  • ONLY Garmin workouts that have heart rate data, start time/date, and total duration recorded in Garmin Connect will be available to sync to Morpheus.
    • Any Garmin workout that did NOT record any one or more of these data types will NOT be available to sync to Morpheus.
  • If you pause your Garmin workout on your Garmin watch or Garmin device...
    • That duration data during the pause will be excluded from both Garmin Connect and from Morpheu
  • Any workout that already exists in Morpheus will NOT appear in the list of Garmin workouts available to import.
    • So for example if you record a workout with your M7 paired to your Garmin watch and then you sync that workout from your M7 to the Morpheus app, that workout now exists in Morpheus and will NOT be available to also sync and import from Garmin…it will not appear in the list when you tap Garmin Connect in the Morpheus app.
  • If you wear your M7 paired to your Garmin watch for a workout, the data will be saved to your M7.
    • If you sync and import the workout to your Morpheus app from the M7, the workout will NOT be available to import from Garmin.
    • If you sync and import the workout to your Morpheus app from Garmin Connect, the workout is still saved on your M7, but there is no reason to also import that one to Morpheus.  If you do, however, the M7 imported workout will delete and override your Garmin workout.  There will be no duplicated data.
    • It is possible that it may look duplicated in your home screen workout history list, but it is not.  This is a cache issue that we will fix.  Even though the data is not actually duplicated, if seeing it there in workout history bugs you, you can delete the Garmin workout.  Do NOT delete the synced one with an asterisk next to it.
