Taking a few minutes to care for your M7 strap and transmitter will keep your readings accurate and help your equipment last for years.

Most heart rate issues are not device failures — they’re caused by sweat build-up, dirt, or corrosion that can easily be prevented with proper care.

After Every Workout: Remove & Wipe Down the Transmitter

When you finish training:

Unclip the transmitter from the strap
Wipe the back of the transmitter with a soft towel to remove sweat
Store it in a cool, dry place — not in a gym bag or steamy bathroom

If you're worried about losing it, a small storage case works great and can be found inexpensively online.

Why This Matters

Sweat is corrosive. Leaving the transmitter attached to a damp strap or not wiping it off can lead to:

• Charging problems
• Trouble powering on
• Connection issues with apps or devices
• Inaccurate heart rate readings

Real-world example:
A transmitter used only 3–4 times per week but never wiped down stopped charging in under a year due to sweat build-up.
Another used 6–7 times per week and wiped down after every workout still looked and worked like new after 3 years.

Small habit — big difference.

Quick Strap Clean (After Most Workouts)

This simple rinse keeps sweat and residue from building up.

Do this after your workout or a few times per week:

  1. Rinse the strap under warm water

  2. Gently pat it dry with a towel

  3. Let it air-dry fully (hang or lay flat)

  4. Wipe the transmitter snap pins with a soft cloth

This prevents salt and oils from interfering with the heart rate signal.

Deep Clean (About Once a Month or If Readings Get Inconsistent)

If readings become jumpy or the strap looks dirty, it’s time for a deeper clean.

Steps:

  1. Fill a bowl with warm water and a small amount of dish soap or laundry detergent
(These are best because they don’t contain moisturizers that leave residue)

  2. Soak the strap for a few hours or overnight

  3. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap

  4. Optional: Use a cotton swab to gently clean inside the strap’s connection ports
⚠️ Be careful not to bend the small metal bars inside

  5. Pat dry with a towel and let it air-dry completely before next use

Washing Machine Warning

We do not recommend machine washing because it can shorten the life of the strap.

If you choose to machine wash anyway:

• Use cold or warm water on a gentle cycle
• Clip the strap together first
• Put it in a laundry bag or wash with clothing
Never use the dryer - Air drying only!

Why Cleaning Matters (Signal Science)

Your heart rate strap reads the electrical signal produced by your heart.

Over time, a layer of build-up forms on the electrodes from:

• Sweat (contains salt)
• Skin oils
• Lotions
• Soap residue

This “gunk layer” blocks the electrical signal and leads to:

• Delayed heart rate response
• Jumpy or erratic readings
• Dropouts during workouts

Cleaning removes that barrier and keeps your strap performing like new.

Bottom Line

Clean strap = clear signal
Dry transmitter = longer device life

A quick rinse and wipe-down routine prevents most issues before they start.
